Branding and business stationery
Late last year whilst doing some Facebook posts Brightbulb came across Caroline from a company called Simon Shield Cars based in Ipswich. Simon Shield Cars specialise in quality, individual used cars and have done since 1996.
Caroline was looking to update the business logo and stationery to co-inside with their 20th year of trading which was officially marked in April of this year. Simon Shield Cars wanted to create an updated style to their branding and convey a few key points to their business personality such as the quality of service that they give and trustworthiness of the company. They wanted to have a logo that could be used for their 20th year which specifically marked the occasion as well as a logo they could use for future years.
Brightbulb Design got underway as we always do by asking some questions about the business to try to understand exactly what they needed to achieve in the re-brand. We then started to develop some ideas that could work for the company. The initial concepts were very well received and we started to mould a finished logo.
One thing that we addressed from their previous logo was to make the graphic part of the logo show exactly what the business does. The best way of doing this was to actually show it, so we introduced a simple but stylish car graphic as if it was parked over the top of the shield. We also changed the shape of the shield from their previous version which made the whole graphic more dynamic.
Another area that the previous logo lacked was a secondary colour to add some contrast to their branding. We changed the original green that Simon Shield had used for many years to a slightly darker tone that coincided more with the famous Jaguar British racing green. We then complimented this colour by introducing a secondary burgundy colour. Together these colours portray a sense of class and quality that was exactly the message we wanted to convey in the branding.
In addition, we created a small ribbon around the base of the shield to add a message to show the longevity of their business. We created 2 versions of the logo, one with the words ‘Est 1996’ that could be used for many years to come and the other with the words ‘1996 – 2016’ as a tribute to their 20 years of fantastic, quality service within the used cars industry.
Lastly we created a new tagline for the company which was garnered from our original questionnaire that we had gave Caroline at the very beginning of the project. The tagline was simple:
quality • assurance • satisfaction,
after all that is what Simon Shield Cars has produced for the past 20 years…
so here’s to another 20!
